Book Review: Happy Place by Emily Henry

A Review of Happy Place by Emily Henry ❤

In this delightful romantic comedy, by Emily Henry, humor and heart are skillfully woven into a captivating love story, creating a feel-good read that will leave you smiling from cover to cover.

Plot:

Harriet and Wyn have been the perfect couple since they met in college—they go together like salt and pepper, honey and tea, lobster and rolls. Except, now—for reasons they’re still not discussing—they don’t.

They broke up six months ago. And still haven’t told their best friends.

Which is how they find themselves sharing the largest bedroom at the Maine cottage that has been their friend group’s yearly getaway for the last decade. Their annual respite from the world, where for one vibrant, blue week they leave behind their daily lives; have copious amounts of cheese, wine, and seafood; and soak up the salty coastal air with the people who understand them most.

Review:

★★★★★

Emily Henry is my favorite author, so when I see a new book by her, I'm going to buy it. Happy Place is her newest book, following Book Lovers, another favorite of mine. As soon as this book was released in 2023, I bought it and slowly got through my "To Be Read" list and finally landed on this one.

Reading the plot, I knew I was going to enjoy this book. One of my favorite romantic tropes is the fake dating trope. I always enjoy reading love stories blossom between characters that pretend to date, sometimes solely for convenience purposes. This book was a bit different however since the two main characters were once lovers turned complete strangers.

This book is for girls who worry about everything: whether they are good enough, achieved enough, and if they are worthy of being loved by someone.

Happy Place allows readers to escape into an entirely different reality, one where they feel safe to feel lonely. A reality where you can discover you are worth loving, even if you don't believe you are.

If you're looking for a good book to read, definitely check this one out!

Signing off,

Emily Deischer

  2. This book sounds like it has an interesting story line! It seems like it could be remade one day as a television series or as a movie on Netflix. I am not the biggest reader, but I am looking forward to the next few books you review. I like how you are giving the books rating on a 1-5 star scale.

  3. I have enjoyed most of the Emily Henry books, but the characters in this irritated me so much. I couldn't wait for it to be over. The book could have been 100 pages if they had just acted like adults and talked to one another!😅
